CASA's Coronavirus/COVID-19 Response

The Coronavirus / COVID-19 and its potential impact to youth in foster care, our volunteers, and our staff is of great concern to us and we are closely monitoring the situation both locally and nationally. We are in close and regular communication with court and county officials in San Bernardino County to provide you with information as we receive it.

As the situation continues to develop, we will update this page with information that affects our volunteers, our operations, and, most important, our youth.

  • Youth and CASA Volunteers

Dependency Court is currently only hearing emergency matters, all other hearings are continued. We have asked CASAs and staff to refrain from court hearings, in-person visits with children, and other in-person meetings until April 6th. Our CASA volunteers will be connecting with their youth to explain why they are unable to meet.
We are prioritizing good communication and maintaining connections. In lieu of in-person visits, we encourage CASAs to be creative in finding ways to stay connected with their appointed youth and to participate in essential meetings remotely if possible.
CASAs will continue to advocate, mentor, and support their youth during this time to ensure that their needs continue to be met. CASAs will continue to complete their time logs, write curt reports, and connect with their appointed youth and Advocate Supervisors.

  • CASA Offices and Staff

Beginning Wednesday, March 18, all CASA staff will be working remotely. All staff can still be reached at their same email addresses and office phone numbers. However, as we are encouraging our staff to not work and take care of themselves if they are sick, please be aware that you may be directed to or contacted by other members of our team if a particular staff member is unavailable. Each and every member of our team is highly qualified and will gladly support you.

  • Training, Information Sessions,Events,

In-person events, such as small group meetings, the 13th Annual Heart of a Hero Run continuing education opportunities, information sessions, volunteer trainings, and community presentations are being postponed and or cancelled through April 6th. All other events will be evaluated as the situation continues to develop. We are currently working on hosting virtual information sessions, more information to come.

We encourage our staff, volunteers, and supporters to take care of your own health and follow nationally recognized guidelines to prevent the spread of illness. We are deeply grateful for our community’s continued dedication to our youth and our mission.

During this time in need our youth need you support

For the safety of the community, we canceled one of our annual signature fundraising events, the 13th Annual Heart of a Hero Run.  This event not only generated over $20,000, but it also served as a platform to recruit new volunteers.  Although we are unable to host the run, we are reaching out to you to continue to support CASA through a monthly donation of $5 or more, starting your own Facebook fundraiser, and or helping us reach new volunteers.  We will be launching  a virtual campaign to help us raise the funds we were unable to raise through the Heart of a Hero Run.  Please join us by clicking on the DONATE button below.

Thank you,
